William H. Thielen, 74, of Latimer, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer, with burial at St. Paul's Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Randall Bell.

William was born May 9, 1926, at Burchinal, to Richard and Gladys Rodemeyer Thielen. He was educated in rural Franklin County country schools, and served in the US Navy during World War II. On Sept. 2, 1949, William married Bertha Ostergaard at Coulter. He was a carpenter and worked for Latimer Grain Co. He belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post No. 658, Latimer. For many years William served on the Latimer City Council. He enjoyed hunting, trap shoot, nature and the outdoors.

Survivors include: his wife, Bertha; a daughter, Becky Lohrbach and her husband, Jeff of Latimer; a son, Brent and his wife, Claudia of Onalaska, Wis.; five sisters, Marjorie Thielen of Hampton, Betty Gausman and her husband, Harris, of Latimer, Shirley Swieter and her husband, Robert, of Clarion, Irene Shear and her husband, Richard, of Locusgrove, Ark., Sandy Kracht and her husband, Raymond, of Dows; three brothers, LaVerne of Cedar Falls, Duane of Hampton, and Gayhart of Latimer; and four grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Richard; and an infant son. Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Latimer, is in charge of arrangements.
