Sophie K. Norris, 93, of Dows, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at the USA Health Care Center in Dows. Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the United Methodist Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Pastor Tony Hershey officiated.
Sophie was born April 26, 1908, in Spandet, Denmark, to Peter and Hansena Ditlefsen Eson. She came to America in 1915 at the age of 7, settling at Rowan. She attended school in Rowan and on Dec. 18, 1928, she married Virgil Norris and they farmed southwest of Dows. After the death of her husband in 1981, she moved into Dows. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Colleen Rotschafer and husband, Leonard, of Webster City, and Clareen Markwardt and husband, Steve, of Iowa Falls; a son, Jerry Norris and wife, Janice, of Dows; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margret Hackley, and a brother, Nels Eson. Elledge Funeral Home in Dows, was in charge of arrangements.
