Cedar Rapids - James "Dean" G. Williams, 79, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Newton, died of cancer Nov. 23, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at the Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with the Rev. Linds Hansen Bibb officiating. Military rites were performed by the American Legion Hanford Post #5. Burial was at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdock-Linwood Service in Cedar Rapids handled arrangements.

The son of James Grand and Bessie Grace Moore Williams, he was born Sept, 27, 1922, in rural Clarion. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1940 and served in the United States Air Force during World War II. On May 14, 1944, he married Ruth Williams in Humboldt.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Dennis Murphy of Myrtle Beach, S. C. , and Carol and Rick Stone of Cedar Rapids; a son, Bruce Grant Williams of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Davis of Clover, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother and three sisters.
