CARY, NC -- Joanne Brisbin died on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. She was born February 14, 1941 in Eagle Grove, IA to James and Phyllis Spangler and married Robert Brisbin on December 27, 1959. Joanne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed. Her life is a testimony to her love for and service to others. Some of Joanne's many passions included serving as Lutheran Social Services Food Pantry volunteer director in Columbus, OH and providing Red Cross support to Katrina evacuees. At Christ the King Lutheran Church, Joanne coordinated the Malawi project, organized longer term support of Katrina evacuees, participated on the Social Ministry committee, served as a Stephen Minister, and volunteered on a disaster relief trip to Mississippi and at various homeless shelter programs. She has touched many lives and has inspired others with her love for and commitment to her church and community.

In addition to her mother, Joanne is survived by her husband, Robert Brisbin; son, Randy Lindsay-Brisbin and his wife, Melanie of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Leanne Brisbin and her husband, Keith Pedersen of Cary; daughter, Jo Fleck and her husband, Mike of Greensboro; "adopted" daughter, Mary Eberst of Chapel Hill; and grandchildren,Jenna, Luke, Tara, Abby, Elizabeth and Matt. She is also survived by brothers, Dean Spangler and his wife, Jeanne of Rocky Mount; Loren Spangler of Chandler, AZ; and Brian Spangler and his wife, Rhonda of Omaha, NE and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to fund Joanne's many passions may be made to Christ the King Memorial Fund, c/o Christ the King Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 164, Cary, NC 27512-0164 or to the American Red Cross, Triangle Chapter, 100 Peartree Lane, Raleigh, NC 27620. A Memorial service and reception to celebrate and honor Joanne's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12th at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 W. Walnut Street, Cary, NC 27511. A second Memorial service will be held at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in Eagle Grove, IA. Funeral arrangements have been made by Apex Funeral Home.
