Elsie L. Gabel, 93, of 304 Third Street N.E., Apartment No. 410, died Friday (April 27, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Memorials may be given to the Elsie L. Gabel Memorial Fund.

Elsie L. Gabel was born on Sept. 16, 1913, in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Sophia (Nelson) Anderson. She graduated from Emmet Consolidated High School in 1932. Elsie married Fred Gabel on Nov. 27, 1935, in Belmond, Iowa. In 1936, they moved to Mason City, where she resided until her death except for four years spent in California after Fred's retirement from Armour. They returned to Mason City in 1975. Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church by transfer from Estherville Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She was active at Trinity Lutheran Church in years past by participating in Women's Circle, Fellowship Choir, ushering, and being part of the prayer chain. Elsie was a volunteer at Good Shepherd Health Center, wheeling patients into church and communion. She also enjoyed visiting with the many patients there.

Elsie is survived by her sons, Clark Gabel and wife, Geri, of Elmirage, Ariz., Roger Gabel and wife, Theresa, of Byron, Minn., Richard Gabel of Elmirage, Ariz., Alvin Gabel and wife, Nancy, of Mason City; daughters, Joyce Allen and husband, Don Jr., of Mason City, Darlene Johnson of Mason City, and fiancé, Bob Tucker, of Kasson, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, four sisters, and one granddaughter. Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Mason City.
