CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Miles S. Chenault, 84, was a resident of Mason City, Iowa, from 1949 to 1959 and rose to become vice president of the Iowa Hardware Mutual Insurance Company. Miles passed away in his home in Crystal River, Fla. on March 18, 2007. He was born in Jewell, grew up in Iowa (Jewell, Alton, Eagle Grove, and Mason City), was a World War II veteran, attended the University of Iowa and graduated with honors from the University of Iowa Law School. He married his college sweetheart, Phyllis Jeanne Nissen, of Walnut, with whom he raised his family, and later enjoyed a long and loving marriage to Joan. While in Mason City, he was a Mason, a member of the VFW, played volleyball at the Y with the company team, was an avid tennis player, was active in the First Methodist Church (including Boy Scout troop leader and treasurer of the Sunday School), a member of the YMCA and the Lions Club, active in Jaycees (including being honored as Young Man of the Year) and was on the Zoning Board. His career in business took him from Iowa (Iowa Hardware) to Miami (Ryder System) and finally to New York City (Midland Insurance, Busch Universal, and then Ashford Holding) until his retirement in 1984. He and Joan enjoyed family and retirement in Miami and then Crystal River, Florida.

Miles was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, and his son, Larry. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his brother, Paul Chenault; two sons; and one daughter; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, and their respective spouses. Final resting will be at the National Veterans' Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
