Selmer J. Weland Obituary
Selmer J. Weland, 74, died at the Clarion Care Center on Thursday, March 20, 1980 where he had been a resident for the past several days.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Oliver E. Johnson at the chapel of the Evler-Willim funeral Home on Saturday, March 22, 1980 at 10:30 a.m. Burial was in Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Robert McCool was the organist and pallbearers were Cleo Bisgrove, Wayne Wilson, William Lane, Gary and Steven Michels and John R. Smith.
Slim was born in Wright County on January 26, 1906 and was the son of Bert and Inger Anderson Weland. He was raised and educated at Eagle Grove. During World War II he served with the army and was awarded three bronze stars. On February 9, 1944 he was married to Bessie Hutchinson and they lived in St. Louis and Fort Dodge. She died in 1968 and in 1973 he moved to Clarion.
Survivors are his mother of Clarion, a brother, Kenneth of Perkins, Oklahoma and three sisters, Mrs. A. B. (Clara) Martin of Tuscon, Arizona, Mrs. Art (Ruth) Ohlfest of Florence, Arizona and Mrs. Edwin (Doris) Michels of Clarion. His father, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
