Marie C. Stark, 98, died Monday (Nov. 27, 1995) at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Tom Currier and deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Tenold Funeral Chapel, Belmond, with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Marie Cecelia (Johnson) Stark, the daughter of John Nicholas and Molly "Mary" Clark Johnson, was born May 21, 1896, in Belmond. Marie completed grade school and high school in Belmond. She then attended and graduated from State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and began her teaching career at Belmond Elementary. She also taught at Terril, Carroll, Marcus, Fort Dodge and Clarion. In 1944 she married Leon "Bud" Stark of Clarion. She and Bud operated Stark's Style Shop until retirement. Following Bud's death in 1959, she remained active in community and church organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Catholic Daughters of America, Business and Professional Women, the Republican Women, church circles, American Red Cross as an active volunteer, Clarion and Belmond Senior Citizens, and, her hobby, several bridge groups. In 1980 she returned to Belmond and resided at the McBurney Apartments. In 1989 she became a resident of the care center. She died Monday at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home.

Survivors include one nephew, Dr. G.R. Hill of Fresno, Calif.; two nieces, Mrs. Bette Hill Jones of Sun City West, Ariz., and Mrs. Janice Bailey Quinby of Cedar Rapids; seven grandnieces; and seven grandnephews; 24 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
