December 1, 1995Grace (Kuhlers) Mennenga, 84, of Belmond, died Thursday (Nov. 30, 1995) at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Reformed Church, rural Belmond, with the Rev. Victor Folkert officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, and will continue on Saturday morning until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will then be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Grace (Kuhlers) Mennenga was born Sept. 6, 1911, on a farm northeast of Meservey, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Verkant) Kuhlers. She attended country school and graduated from Heidelberg Catechism at the First Reformed Church in Meservey. She worked three years in a general store in Meservey before her marriage to Elmer Mennenga on Feb. 22, 1938, at the Immanuel
Reformed Parsonage. They farmed east of Belmond for nine years and moved to a farm southwest of Meservey, where they farmed until they retired to Belmond in 1974. She was a member of the Immanuel Reformed Church and the RCWM of the Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.Survivors include her daughter, Diane Rehm and her husband, Chuck of Waunakee, Wis.; sons, Alan Mennenga and his wife, Lori of Meservey, and Duane Mennenga and his wife, Pat of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Louie (Marie) Dirksen and Alvina Kuhlers, both of Belmond, and Alice Dirks of Meservey; and brothers, Herman and Carl Kuhlers of Belmond. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; brothers, Albert and George; and a sister, Reka.
