Donald G. Robinson, 66, of Belmond, died on Sunday, September 29, 2002, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. At the family's request, memorials may be directed to the Wright County Hospice or the Belmond United Methodist Church.
Don, the son of Merrels and Pearl Bergman Robinson, was born on September 1, 1936, in Hancock County. He grew up in the Britt area and attended country school at Orthel Township #5. Following graduation from the Britt High School in 1954, Don was employed as an auto mechanic for the Buick garage. He was also a member of the Army Reserves from 1954-1960. On June 10, 1962, Don was married to Chloris Anderson at the Christian Church in Stanhope. The couple lived in Britt until the fall of 1963 when they moved to Belmond. Don received his FCC Commercial Radio-Telephone license and was employed with the Iowa Department of Public Safety for 34 years as a radio dispatcher and later as radio technician. For the last seven years Don hauled corn for H & J Buseman Farms. In 1994, Don was named "Lion of the Year". He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond where he served as an usher, and on the finance, trustee and nominating committees. He was on the board of the Belmond Community Apartments, Belmond Planning and Zoning Commission, and active in the Wright County Crime Stoppers. Don enjoyed hunting and camping. He spent many hours on his amateur radio talking with people from over 80 countries.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Don is survived by his wife, Chloris; two sons, Daniel Robinson of Dallas, Texas and Rick Robinson of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Jazmin and Irie Robinson; and a sister, Grace Robinson of Britt.
