Margaret Orum -- Born April 7, 1918, in Eagle Grove, she was the daughter of Mary Ellen and Charles Ellsworth Gross. On Aug. 10, 1941, she married Arthur McClellan Orum in Ames. He died in 2002. She graduated from Eagle Grove public schools and Eagle Grove Junior College in 1938. She was a 1941 graduate of Iowa State College. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She moved to Carthage with her husband, where she was the office secretary and assistant in his veterinary practice. They retired to Arizona in 1980. She was a homemaker, an active volunteer in her church and community and was a substitute teacher in the Carthage school system. She enjoyed music and was a member of the Presbyterian Church choirs in Carthage, Yuma, Ariz., and Sun City West, Ariz. She was a member of Delvers, a past president of Mississippi Valley Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary and chairman of Red Cross Gray Lady Volunteers. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, bridge, quilting and cooking. After retirement, she traveled to Alaska, South and Central America, New Zealand and Europe with her husband. She moved to the Carolinas in 2004.
Survivors include one daughter, Judith Gregory of Santa Monica, Calif.; one son, Stephen Orum of Landrum, S.C.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services for Mrs. Orum will be held at the Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, Illinois at a time and date to be announced later. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society. Lamporte Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of the arrangements.
