Oliver Anderson, son of Andrew and Maren Anderson, was born near Oslo, Norway, March 29, 1857, and passed away Oct. 2, 1940, at Goldfield, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 3 days. Oliver was baptized and confirmed in his youth in the Lutheran Church. In 1867 he came to America with his parents. They located at McGregor in Clayton County, Iowa, where they lived for 6 years. From there they moved to Humboldt County 4 1/2 miles west of what later became Eagle Grove. In 1897they moved to Hardy. The past 4 years he has resided at Goldfield. Mr. Anderson never married; He made his home with his brother John who preceded him in death in 1916, and has since that time with his nephew, Ed L. Anderson, until 2 1/2 years ago when he was stricken with ill health, and has since been cared for at the A.E. Bangston home, where he passed away.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He leaves to mourn his loss his sister-in-law Mrs. Margaret Anderson and several nieces and nephews, besides a large number of old friends. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Oct. 4, from the Ed Anderson home, conducted by the Rev. T.S. Bassett, pastor of the local Methodist Church. Mrs. G.G. Braden, pianist, played the prelude and postlude and accompanied for Mrs. Kenneth Whyte and Mrs. Conger Whyte who sang the songs, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul." The pall bearers were all grand-nephews of the deceased: John Dorem, Floyd, Everett, Clarence, Lyle, and Jerald Anderson.
Among those attending from out of town were the following: Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Simpson of Mountain Lake, MN, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lewison of State Center, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson of Madrid, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Bogard, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Anderson and daughter Chalotte, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Haines of Corwith, and Mr. and Mrs. Neal Witman of Kanawha, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Will Anderson and son Floyd, and Helen Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Averholman, Francis Krause, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Lowmiller of Renwick, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Holmes of LuVerne, Mr. and Mrs. Cass Rhiner, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Christenson, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Oldson, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dorem and John of Eagle Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baessler, Bart and Neal Hanavon of Livermore, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Anderson of West Bend and Herman Ernest of Thor.
