Darrell Kalash, 69, Wahpeton, died Friday, May 19, 1989, in St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, Minn. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. John's Catholic Church, Wahpeton. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in Vertin-Munson Funeral Home. Wahpeton Military services will be conducted by members of the American Legion and VFW of Wahpeton.

Darrell Kalash was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of George and Lois Kalash. He graduated from high school in Lakefield, Minn. in 1938. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio operator on a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic. He married Louise Fletcher Jan. 19, 1949, in Lakefield. He worked for Montgomery Ward and Co. in Wahpeton from 1949 to 1974. He then was employed by North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.

Survivors are his wife: sons, Dwight F. Thompson, N.D., Scott J. Wahpeton, daughter, Sandra Kay (Mrs. William) Woehrmann, Eau Claire, Wis.; five grandchildren; and brothers, Dwight, St. Cloud, Minn., George, Huntington Beach, Calif., and Dean, Mabel, Minn. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
