CARL BUTENHOFF DIES SATURDAY AT HOME HERE

Carl F. Butenhoff, a resident of this area since 1902, died late Saturday [April 30, 1960] afternoon at his home here after a long illness. He was 67 years of age. He was born July 10, 1892 at Hampton, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Butenhoff. He was baptised in the Lutheran Church in Hampton. He came with his parents to the Baker community in 1902. He attended school and grew to manhood in Alliance Township, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin. On March 9, 1920 he was united in marriage to Mathilda Riedel of Parkers Prairie, at Trinity Church. For 39 years they farmed near Baker, moving into Barnesville in March, 1959. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, of the local American Legion Post, and was on the Alliance Township school board. For 25 years he was secretary and treasurer for the Trinity Aid Association for Lutherans.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Melvin of Comstock, Floyd and George of Barnesville; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Delores) Young of Grand Forks and Mrs. Walter (Grace) Kara of Rochester; nine grandchildren. There are seven brothers, Clarence, Leonard and Edwin of Barnesville, William and Albert of Baker, Theodore of Sabin and Fred of Hampton, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Irving (Evelyn) Sether of Rothsay. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. I. W. Bade officiating. Mrs. Ralph Rehder was soloist, with Mrs. I. W. Bade, organist. Pallbearers were six nephews, John Sether, Roy Butenhoff, Curtis Butenhoff, Edward Butenhoff, Orville Butenhoff and Theodore Butenhoff. Military Rites were conducted by Maurice E. Masterson American Legion Post 153 of Barnesville. Interment was in the church cemetery. Dobmeier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
