Last Rites Held For A. G. Butenhoff Sr.

Albert G. Butenhoff Sr., once prominent farmer and one of Baker's [Minnesota] grand old men was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon, June 24, at the Lutheran church yard cemetery. Mr. Butenhoff died [June 21, 1948] after a week-long illness.

Albert Gustav Butenhoff was born at Zarben on the Roge River in Germany on April 10, 1860. He came to the United States in 1868, settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He later moved to Iowa and married Emma Moll at Hampton in 1891. To this union 11 children were born. Mrs. Butenhoff, a son George and a daughter Luella (Mrs. Hartwell Carr) preceded him in death. Surviving are Carl, Albert Jr. of Baker, Fred of Hampton, Iowa; Theodore Of Sabin, Edwin, Willie, Clarence and Leonard, all of Baker and Evelyn, now Mrs. Irwin Sether of Rothsay. There are 24 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Butenhoff has been a resident of the Baker vicinity since 1901 when he came here from Hampton, Iowa. He had extensive farming interests and his home was one of the beauty spots of the locality. He was a kind and loving father and a good neighbor. Death came at 11:55 midnight on Monday, June 21, 1948. Short services were held at the home on Thursday at one o'clock in the afternoon and funeral services at the Trinity church near Sabin at 2 o'clock. Rev. Paul Schumm, pastor, officiated and Miss Schumm presided at the organ. Miss Janet Possehl sang "Heaven is my Home" and Irwin Williams of Moorhead sang "Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus." There were many memorials and floral tributes.

Honorary pallbearers were O. N. Iverson, Walter Cook, Thomas Thompson, George McEvers, Wm. And Ferdinand Butenhoff. Active pallbearers were Milton, David, Arnold and Lawrence Butenhoff, and Rudy and Chester Possehl. Coming from a distance to attend the funeral were Fred Butenhoff, Hampton, Iowa; Orville Butenhoff, Dumont, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Tegemeir Sr. and Clarence Tegemeir, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tegemeir Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wermeson, Britt, Iowa; Art Butenhoff, Triego, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Holt, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Thomas, Leo Butenhoff and Gustav Butenhoff, Spooner, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Johanson and Beverly, So. St. Paul; Mrs. Dick Young and Judy, Grand Forks; Mrs. Hilda Thompson of Madison Wis.
