George Henry Gustav Butenhoff
Source unknown, date ca November 1931The community of Baker [Minnesota] was shocked and deeply saddened on Thursday when it was learned that George Butenhoff had died suddenly [October 29, 1931] at his home that morning. George was apparently in good health although it was known that he had suffered several heart attacks, his death was entirely unexpected. Deceased was a young man who possessed a fine character, and his kind, cheerful disposition won for him many warm friends who mourn his untimely departure.
George H. G. Butenhoff was born at Dows, Iowa, Dec. 30, 1898. A few years later the family moved onto a farm near Baker [MN] which has since been their home. He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Butenhoff; two sisters, Luella and Evelyn; eight brothers, Carl, Albert, Theodore, Edwin, William, Clarence and Leonard, all of Baker and Fred of Hampton, Iowa, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul Schumm, were held Sunday afternoon at the home and Trinity Lutheran church at Sabin at which the deceased was confirmed and remained a faithful member. The remains were interred in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Hartwell Carr, Fred Miller, Herman Possehl Jr., Walter and Clarence Altenberndt and Irwin Johnk. Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Butenhoff, Orville and Helen, and Mrs. Geo. Rohde of Hampton, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tegtmeyer and son Clarence of Britt, Iowa; Leo Butenhoff of Earl, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Kaus of Fergus Falls. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in this community and floral offerings were beautiful. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes to the grief stricken parents, sisters and brothers in one of the greatest sorrows of their lives.
