Frieda H. Madison, 78, of Goodell, passed away Sunday (June 11, 2000) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral services for Frieda H. Madison will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Goodell with the Rev. Patrick Kennedy officiating. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Visitation for Frieda H. Madison will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Frieda, the daughter of Fredrick and Johanna (Oltman) Delling, was born June 17, 1921, in Estherville. She grew up in Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota. Frieda was united in marriage with Carl Madison on Jan. 22, 1941, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church parsonage in Goodell. To this union were born three sons, Donald, Robert and Gerald. Frieda was employed by the Goodell and Belmond Community School as cook and head cook for 30 years. She liked baking, embroidery and making woven rag rugs. Frieda babysat for many years for countless numbers of children in Goodell. She was always willing to help out the widows and widowers in Goodell. She enjoyed making people happy and she served her community well for more than 61 years.
Frieda is survived by three sons, Donald Madison and his wife, Hildegard, of Belmond; Robert Madison and his wife, Eileen, of Goldfield; and Gerald Madison of Goodell; four grandchildren, Rosemary, Donald, Mary and Keith; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lena Nelson, of Waseca, Minn., Rica Becker and her husband, Oscar, of Truman, Minn., Helen Kopischke of Madison Lake, Minn., and Dorothy Lewis of Medelia, Minn.; and two brothers, John Delling and his wife, Judy, of Waseca, Minn. and Raymond Delling and his wife, Carolyn, of Miami, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and three sisters, Amelia, Anna and Margaret. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
