Raymond Joseph Haugland, 87, passed away Thursday (May 13, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lime Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Emmons, Minn. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ray, the son of Helmer and Ingeborg Roa Haugland, was born May 7, 1912, in Leland. He grew up in north central Iowa, where he attended school through the eighth grade at the Haugland School near Leland. He, with his family, would later move to North Dakota. Ray was united in marriage to Blanche G. Stene on Oct. 20, 1940, at the Lime Creek Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Lake Mills for a time before moving to Belmond in 1948. Blanche and Ray owned a Radio and Television Repair Shop in Lake Mills, and later in Belmond. A lifetime television repairman, Ray continued to work on antennas into his 80s. The couple "retired" from the television repair business in 1991, and moved into the Belmond Apartments. Ray loved to tinker and fix radios and television sets. Ray has belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church since moving to Belmond. He was confirmed in Norwegian at the Winnebago Lutheran Church near Leland.

Ray is survived by one daughter, Diane Harris of Vinton; two sons, Bruce Haugland of Cedar Falls, and Paul Haugland of Belmond; five grandchildren, Amy, Scott, Matt, Maria and Chelsea; seven great-grandchildren, Henry, Zachary, Hannah, Skyler, Nick, Julia and Jordyn; two sisters, Hazel Moe and her husband, Leroy, of Lake Mills, and Eleanor Tweeten of St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, Adolph Haugland and his wife, Vernis, of Sparta, Wis.; and a step-sister, Olga Goudie of Maplewood, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche, in 1995; and one brother, Kenneth. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
