Doris E. Musselman, 86, of Belmond, died on Thursday, August 5, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 9, 2004, at the Belmond United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Druhl officiating. Accompanists were Dona Cleveland and JoAn Skyrme. Vocalists were Cyndy McNulty and Amy Pollitt. A poem was read by Sheila Ruka. Casket bearers were Frank Quigley, Todd Walrod, George Dickerson, Stan Brandmeyer, Mark McNulty and Terry Anderson. Ushers were Gary Erlsand and Roger Modderman.

Doris, the daughter of John A. and Augusta Jacobs Berghefer, was born on June 26, 1918 in Rockwell. She attended school in Garner and Belmond and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1935. She finished post-grad high school in 1938 and then taught school in Dows for a year. Doris married Glen A. Musselman of Fort Dodge at the Belmond Methodist Church on May 5, 1940. They made their home in Belmond where she was employed as an aide in the Belmond Community Hospital for 17 years. Following Glen's death in 1965, Doris attended NIACC and received her associate degree in nursing in 1970. Following graduation she was employed at the Mercy Medical Center until 1972, at which time she joined the Story County Public Health Nurses. Doris served as a board member of the Easter Seal Society in Des Moines for four years and was on the board of the Edith Hale Child Care Center in Nevada for two years. She moved to Arkansas in 1981 but returned to Belmond in 1982 to be one of the first residents at the Redder/McLaughlin Apartments, where she was residing at the time of her death. Doris was a member of the Belmond United Methodist Women and church circles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, making quilts, traveling, working crossword puzzles, and giving presentations. Doris was active in Congregate Meals, Senior Citizens, Progress Club, Charter Member of the VFW Auxiliary, WaTanYe, Friends of the Library, Senior Cabinet of Elderbridge, Hospital Auxiliary, RSVP, and SALT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vicki and grandson, David both in 1998; a sister; and a brother. Doris is survived by her son, Randyll (Barbara) Musselman of Brownsbrug, Indiana; daughters, Barbara (James) Dickerson of Altoona, Sheila (Gary) Ruka of Belmond and Cyndy McNulty of Belmond; sixteen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Kroeger of Belmond, Ina Stille of Garner and Garnett Beenen of Newton.
