James Leroy Havens, 76, died Friday (Feb. 14, 1997) at Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at United Church of Christ, Congregational with the Rev. Bill Mulford officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.

James Leroy Havens, the son of Roy and Ola (Bowles) Havens, was born Nov. 21, 1920 at Logan. He graduated from Logan High School in 1936, and attended Grinnell College and Commercial Business College in Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Marian Garver on May 27, 1945, and Jim started in the dry cleaning business with Marian's father for nine years at Corydon. In 1956, they came to Belmond and began the Model Dry Cleaners, which they have operated side by side. Jim loved his family, spending time teaching them golf and attended all sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He liked to bowl and to read. He was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Belmond, 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Corydon.

Surviving is his wife, Marian; sons, Don Havens and his wife, Judy of Belmond, Mark Havens and his wife, Terri of Belmond; daughter, Susan Johnson and her husband, Kent of Wapello; grandchildren, Rita, Sarah, Michael, Travis and Derek Havens and Andrea and Karra Johnson; sisters, Jane Kiedaisch of Joliet, Ill. and Annebelle Mahlmann of Shaker Heights, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, James D.
