17 August 2004Donald Allen Calvert, 67, of Eagle Grove passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. today at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Paul Stone officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Donald Allen Calvert was born May 16, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Earl and Helen (Fry) Calvert. He was raised and educated in Sioux City, graduating from East High School in 1955. He attended and graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. Don was united in marriage to Sharyl K. Johnson on Aug. 31, 1962, at Akron, Iowa. She died in an automobile accident in 1968. He then married Janet Anderson on June 1, 1974, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Don coached and taught for two years at South Clay School District in Gillett Grove, Iowa, five years at Aurelia, Iowa and six years at South Winneshiek at Calmar before moving to Brandon, Minn. for one year. He moved to Eagle Grove in 1981, where he taught physical education, health and driver's education and coached football. Don retired in December of 2003. Don enjoyed time with his family, fishing, golfing, camping, hiking and helping children of all ages, but football was his great love.
Survivors include his wife, Janet of Eagle Grove; a daughter, Dr. Krista Calvert and her husband, David Smith, of Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Scott Calvert of Urbandale, Iowa; a daughter, Lexie Just, and her husband, Collin of North Liberty, Iowa; a stepson, Jeff Calvert of Bellingham, Wash.; a granddaughter, Alana Mae Just; two brothers and their wives, Duane and Julie Calvert of Albuquerque, N.M. and Richard and Jean Calvert of Algonquin, Ill.; a sister, Beverly Kopecky of Lindstrom, Minn.; and several other relatives and friends. In addition to his first wife, Sharyl, he was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, John Kopecky. Don's family requests memorials be left to the high school weight room project or the Eagle Grove Memorial Library.
