CEDAR FALLS, IA - William "Bill" Simpson, 68, died Wednesday, April 20 (2005), in the Cedar Valley Hospice Home at Waterloo. Funeral service for him was held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church with Inurnment in Fairview Cemetery at Cedar Falls. The Richardson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Hospice, Waterloo Cancer Center or the First United Methodist Church of Cedar Falls.
William Thomas, son of Clifford H. and Tillie L. (Weland) Simpson, was born August 23, 1936, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He received his Bachelor's degree on June 9, 1961 and his Master's degree in 1976 from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. He was united in marriage to Marcia E. Young on July 28, 1962, at Parkersburg, Iowa. William was a science instructor in the Parkersburg School System from 1961 until 1966, then he taught at Algona Community Middle School from 1966 to 1975. He then worked in the Cedar Falls Community School System at Peet Junior High, then at Holmes. William was an assistant coach in basketball and football at Parkersburg and Algona. He was a past chair member of the Administrative Board at First United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School and helped with Youth Group. He was also a past member of the Cedar Falls Park Board and president of the Cedar Falls Education Association, 1988. He loved UNI football and basketball.
William is survived by his wife, Marcia (2610 McClain Dr.); two sons, Kurt T. (Akiko) Simpson of Cedar Falls, Eric S. (Stacy) Simpson of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Amy M. (Stephen) O'Dowd of Montville, New Jersey and six grandchildren.
