Larry E. Schimp, 63, of Belmond, died on Friday, November 15, 2002, at the Belmond Medical Center under the care of Wright County Hospice. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 18, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Larry Edward Schimp, the son of Edward and Mollie (Erdman) Schimp, was born on March 19, 1939, in Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. Larry attended schools in Belmond and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1957. Larry was united in marriage with Nancy Smith on September 20, 1958, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond. Larry worked for the Iowa Highway Commission, Laurel Feeds, Kinseth Plumbing and Heating, and also worked in the meat department at the P&G Grocery store. He had a feed store in Belmond and sold feed in the area for 27 years. Larry was an avid sportsman. He was a fastball softball pitcher. He played for various teams in north Iowa, including Kinseth Plumbing and Heating, and for Buttertop. Larry enjoyed officiating football and softball. He liked hunting and fishing, camping, golfing and horseback riding. He is most remembered for his love for his family. He very much enjoyed following his children and grandchildren, encouraging them in their activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ernest Kalkwarf; father-in-law, Bill Smith; and three brothers-in law. Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Mike (Tammy) Schimp of Hampton and Marty (Kim) Schimp of Williams; five grandchildren, Ryan, Eric, Bryce, Kevin and Molly; mother-in-law, Ina Smith of Belmond; sister-in-law, Sharon (Larry) McMurray of Ackley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
