Mabel Luella Sybilrud, 98, of Belmond, died on Sunday, November 3, 2002, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the St. Olaf Church Cemetery, near Belmond.

Mabel Larson, was born on May 2, 1904, on her parents farm in Hancock County near Kanawha. She was baptized at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Lutheran church in Kanawha. Mabel attended Kanawha Schools. She moved with her family to Minnesota at age 15. Mabel married Edgar Sybilrud, on May 2, 1925 on her parents farm. They farmed there for a short time before moving to New Richland, Minnesota. They moving to Waseca, Minnesota in 1942. In 1953 they moved to California and lived there until Edgar died in 1970. Mabel moved back to Minnesota and married Reuben Sybilrud at the New Richland Lutheran Church Parsonage in 1973. They made their home at St. Olaf Lake east of New Richland. Reuben died in 1978 and Mabel then moved to the New Richland retirement center. She moved to Belmond in the early 1980's and lived at the retirement center for many years before becoming a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in 1999.

Mabel will be remembered by her family for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sibling. She loved to bake and was an excellent cook. She was known for her bars, cookies, and homemade biscuits. She loved to host family gatherings and Sunday dinners. She always was very active in church, participating in choirs and ladies groups at Trinity Lutheran in New Richland, Grace Lutheran in Waseca, Our Savior's Lutheran in California, LeSeuer River Lutheran near New Richland, and Trinity Lutheran in Belmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edgar and Reuben Sybilrud; brothers, Ralph and Dr. A.M. Larson; sisters, Lillian Engel and Dorothy Higgins; and twin granddaughters. Survivors are her son, Eldred "Buzz" (Elaine) Sybilrud of Locust Grove, Virginia; daughter, Audrey Jensen of New Richland; sister, Pearl Larson of Belmond; grandchildren, David Sybilrud of Bellflower, California and Linda (Ed) Boren and Jeff Sybilrud of Locust Grove; and great-grandchildren Wendy, Sarah, and Haley.
