Paul Sullivan, 86, of Webster City, died Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at Ames. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center, with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon till service time. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.
Robert Paul Sullivan, son of Grover and Bertha Moenck Sullivan, was born April 2, 1920 at Duncombe. He received his education and graduated from Duncombe High School in 1938. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. in the 357th Infantry 90th Division. He was wounded in France and again in Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1945. On September 18, 1946, he married Lula Arlene Claude at Arlene’s parent’s farm in Wright County. The couple resided at Lake Okoboji for 18 months, than farmed near Duncombe for 3 years. For over 35 years they had farmed the Claude family farm in Wright County. Mrs. Sullivan preceded him in death in June 2006. Paul is survived by a brother, Wilford Sullivan of Oak Harbor, Washington; niece, Judy Russell of Clarion; several other nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews and a sister-in-law, Olive Sullivan of Indiana. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Sullivan.
He was a member of the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church. He was an avid wood carver and a member of the Webster City Wood Carving Club. He also served on the Wright County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
