Funeral services for David Niswander, 71, were held Thursday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Chapel, Ocheyedan, with Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Interment was in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, with Andringa Funeral Home, Ocheyean, in charge of arrangements. David died January 7, 2007.
David James Niswander was born on April 26, 1935, Ocheyedan, son of Ralph Eugene and Helen Robin (Case) Niswander. He lived his youth and attended school in Ocheyedan. He was married to Kathryn Wise of Eagle Grove, on October 2, 1954, in Topeka, Kans. They lived in Ocheyedan, where David worked construction as a project superintendent with elevator construction for Jarvis Construction, Jacobson and Sons Construction and Vigen Construction. He drove truck for many years for Midwest Coast Trucking in Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and most recently leased and drove truck for Bruscher Trucking in Sioux Falls. In 1996, David suffered from many strokes, which left him disabled and unable to work. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan and a founding member of the Ocheyedan Catfish Club.
David is survived by his wife, Kathy Niswander of Ocheyedan; seven children and 10 grandchildren: Steven and Barb Niswander, Ocheyedan, and their children, Levi of Monroe, N. Car., Nicole of Rochester, Minn., and Dylan of Ocheyedan; Dean Niswander of Ocheyedan; Diane and Chuck Benz of Melvin and children: Jesse of Crooks, S. Dak., Jaron of Algona and Jordan of Melvin; Brenda Drenkow of Ocheyedan and children: CPL Chris Hattendorf and wife L/CPL Nichole Roost of Oceanside, Calif., Austen Drenkow of Ocheyedan; Robin and Michael McDaniel of Yorkville, Ill., one child, Cameron Vos of Yorkville, Ill.; Lorrain Bremer of Sioux City and special friend Craig Wahman of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; Neil Niswander of Milford, and child Emma of Lake Park; two sisters: Velna Feltz of Woodward and Judy and Al Dau of Melvin. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: William "Bill", Robert "Red", Charles "Chuck", Keith, Richard "Dede"; grandson, Lucas James Hattendorf.
