Armin Schultz, 89, of Dakota City, died on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home in Algona, with a Masonic Service at 10 a.m. Burial will be at East Lawn Memory Gardens in Algona with Military Rites conducted by the Algona VFW Post 2451 and the Haag-Turner American Legion Post 90 of Algona.
Armin Nelson Schultz was born on October 1, 1917, in Elmore, Minn., the son of Alfred and Clara (Nelson) Schultz. He attended country schools in Elmore, Minn. and Ledyard, IA before moving to Algona in 1934 and graduating from Algona High School in 1936. After graduating from High School he worked for the Algona Creamery until her moved to Goldfield and operated a service station from 1939-40. In 1940, he moved back to Algona and along with other family members opened a service station on the south side of Algona known as Schultz Bros. He entered the Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged with the rank of master sergeant in 1946 serving in the South Pacific and Japan. Armin married Delva Masterhan on October 1, 1946, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and returned to Algona to run the family business. He was a franchised auto dealer from 1947 to 1976 with automobile companies such as Willys Jeep, Studebaker, Edsel, Buick, Pontiac, and Cadillac. From 1960 until 1972 he sponsored the Barn Dance on KVFD Television in Fort Dodge. In 1976 he sold his interest in Schultz Bros. and moved to the Fairmont, Minn. area. After his wife passed away in 1999 he lived in Dakota City until he death. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic, Scottish Rite and Shrine organizations, as well as the VFW and American Legion.
Mr. Schultz is survived by his daughter, Connie Hackett of Mankato, Minn.; a son, Steve Schultz Sr. and his wife Debra of Dakota City; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and three brothers.
