Clara Mae Steenblock, 82, of Belmond, died Tuesday (Jan. 5, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Celestyne DeVance officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church.

Clara Mae, the daughter of Simon C. and Cathryn Patterson Mosiman, was born May 23, 1916, at Stillson, Iowa. She attended country schools near Stillson, riding a horse-drawn school bus. In the early 1930's Clara Mae moved to Belmond. On April 3, 1937, she was united in marriage to Paul Steenblock, in Webster City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Belmond, where Clara Mae was a homemaker, but also worked at the "K" Motel and the nursing home. In 1988, the couple moved to the Belmond Retirement Center. Clara Mae enjoyed crocheting and making miscellaneous things for her family. She also enjoyed sewing and canning. Clara Mae was known for her homemade goodies and tea that she shared with her family and friends. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she was involved in the Ladies Circle. She was also a Brownie Leader and a member of the GEM Card Club. Her entire family was the most important part of her life and she will be sorely missed.

Clara Mae was survived by two daughters, JoAnn Roehre and her husband, Tom, of Plymouth, Wis.; Cathryn Ibeling and her husband, Scott, of Aplington, Iowa; two sons, Len Steenblock and his wife, LuAnn, of Belmond; and Leslie Steenblock and his wife, Susan, of Mason City; five grandchildren, Brenda Roehre, of Plymouth, Wis., Paul Steenblock and his wife, Sue, of Las Vegas, Nev., Sara Van de Pas and her husband, Hubert, of Plymouth, Wis.; John Steenblock, of Belmond; and Andrew Steenblock, of Mason City; four great-grandchildren Melissa, Marike, Luciene, and Michaela; two sisters, Esther Daniels and her husband, Pete, of Garner, and Beverly Faaborg and her husband, Lloyd, of Rockwell; three brothers, Archie Mosiman and his wife, Elinor, of Clear Lake; Robert Mosiman and his wife, Irene, of Meservey; and Cecil Mosiman and his wife, June, of Belmond; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Rollin and Eugene.
