FRESNO, Calif. - Niki Farmakis Skodon passed away on June 7, 2001, in her home in Fresno, Calif. Born and raised in Mason City, Iowa, Niki Farmakis Skodon graduated from Mason City High School, then graduated from the University of Iowa where she majored in English and Journalism and was campus editor of the Daily Iowan. She taught English and Journalism at Eagle Grove and Sheldon, Iowa. Shortly after she went on to Chicago where she became editor of National Electronics Distributors Association and thereafter went to American Trade Publications where she met her late husband, Michael J. Skodon, and was the advertising and sales manager. She joined her husband in creating their own publishing company, The Spaulding Press, in Chicago. Niki also worked for The Greek Press in Chicago as a columnist for a number of years under the heading "Over The Cup." Many of her articles appeared in The Chicago Tribune and Cosmopolitan Magazine.

Funeral services were held on June 13 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Fresno, with Father James Pappas officiating. Survivors include three sisters, Dr. Marina Kennedy Cobb, Mrs. Eveln Nicholas Boosalis and Mari Farmakis, all of Fresno, Calif.; Dr. Nicholas Boosalis, brother-in-law, of Fresno, Mrs. Peter Farmakis, of Chicago; nephews, Constantine Boosalis and his wife, Vicki, of Porterville, Calif., James Boosalis, of San Jose, David Boosalis, of Palo Alto, Matthew Boosalis, of San Francisco; and grand nephews, Nicholas Boosalis, Cody Boosalis and Casey Boosalis, of Porterville, Calif.
