Alice K. Dirks, 97, died Thursday, May 11, 2000 at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, at First Reformed Church in Meservey with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment was at the Meservey Cemetery near Meservey. Music was provided by Maxine Jenison, organist; Marlys Pralle and Mavis Dirksen, a duet. Ushers were Roger Fekkers and Don Dorenkamp. Casket bearers were Bruce Dirksen, Ross Dirks, Roger Kramer, Bill Williams, Mike Joynt, Brian Dirksen, Gary Kramer, and Kyle Dirks. Alice Kuhlers, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Vierkant) Kuhlers was born March 26, 1903, in Franklin County. She attended country school in Cerro Gordo County. She was united in marriage to George Dirks on December 30, 1924, at the Meservey Reformed Parsonage. They farmed together south of Meservey and moved to Meservey after retirement. They were custodians at the Reformed Church, which Alice continued after George's death in 1963. Alice was a member of the First Reformed Church for 78 years and a member of the RCW since 1956. She enjoyed crochet and growing flowers, especially roses.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George; three sisters, Reka Pals, Grace Mennenga, and Marie Dierksen; three brothers, Herman, George and Albert; granddaughter, Linda Kramer Tjarks; and son-in-law, Robert Kramer. Survivors are her daughters and one son-in-law, Eiloa Kramer of Iowa Falls, Grace and Dirk Dirksen, of Alexander; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Ellen Kay Dirks of Hampton, Donald and Mae Dirks of Clear Lake; 13 grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sister, Alvina Kuhlers of Belmond; brother and sister-in-laws, Carl and Shirley Kuhlers of Belmond; sister-in-law, Lucille Kuhlers of Forest City, Tena Dirks of Sheffield; brother-in-law, Louise Dirksen of Belmond; many nieces and nephews.
