John K. Taylor was the son of county residents, was instantly killed and his body terribly mangled at a crossing accident February 22 1905 at his home in Galt, Iowa, where he resided for 15 years. John K. Taylor was the son of David and Elizabeth Krieger Taylor, and was born about 1836 in South Kersey about three miles from Centerville, Elk Co., PA. He married Miss Rachel Meredith, also of Kersey, and for a number of years afterwards lived at J.S. Hyde's Toby Farm having charge of Hyde's saw mill at that place. In 1865 he removed to Illinois, where he lived until 1890, when he went to Iowa. Six children, four of whom are still living were born to him. One son and one daughter live in Iowa, another son lives in Montana, and the other daughter was married to Dr. J.C. McAllister in 1889 and lives in Ridgway, Elk Co., PA. He is also survived by his only brother, Joel S. Taylor, of Dagus Mines who is his senior by two years; Mrs Chauncey Brockway of Crenshaw, and Mrs Ann Meredith of Kersey.

The following clipping from the local Iowa paper will be of interest to his former associates and relatives: "Mr. Taylor came to this place some twelve years ago with Mr. and Mrs. A.F. McCoy, and had since made this his home. He was a wagon maker by trade, and had a wagon shop where he did all kinds of repairing. He was a great reader and kept himself thoroughly informed on the news of the day, a good conversationalist, a good friend, a good citizen, a good neighbor, and a man who was honest in his dealings with his fellow man. The familiar face of Mr Taylor will be missed by all as each goes about his daily duties. To the bereaved relatives of the deceased is extended the heartfelt sympathy of all."
