ROBERT E. CUTBIRTH - Reidsville, GA

Former Des Moines pastor and Republican Party leader Robert E. Cutbirth, 79, passed away May 18 in Savannah, GA. Born in Nebraska, Bob served in the Navy during World War II. In 1949, upon graduation from St. Paul (MN) Bible Institute he married Lois Beisell of Goldfield. Bob was pastor of Jubilee Fellowship in Des Moines and also pastored in Hartwick, Ottumwa, Clutier, Vining, and Haven. A graduate of William Penn College, Bob taught and coached at HLV Schools. He was headmaster of Stanzel Christian near Greenfield. For 15 years, Bob was counselor and chaplain of Powell III Recovery Unit at Iowa Methodist Hospital. Upon retirement, Bob and Lois spent summers in Iowa and winters in Georgia. Bob was Polk County Republican Chair in 1992. He was also U.S. Board President of Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission of India (GSAM). Other involvements included AA, Lions Club and VFW. Bob is survived by his wife, four daughters, three sons, one sister, one brother, 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services are currently being planned for the Iowa area.
