Ernest HEIDEN 1873-1943

HEIDEN, THORMAN, ROCKOW, SCHUTT, BEYER, GRABER, HEIDEN

The community was shocked when it heard that Ernest Heiden so suddenly passed away in the early morning, April 26. The deceased, second child of Fred and Mary Heiden was born Jan. 10, 1873 on a farm one and a half miles west of the Vernon Lutheran church. Soon after birth he was baptized into the name of the Triune God. He attended the public school and after Christian instruction he was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Webster City. He remained a life long member of the Lutheran church and always gave it his support.
The deceased grew to manhood in the community and farmed here all his life. On March 1896 he was united in marriage with Anna Thorman who shared the joys and woes of life with him for 47 years.
To this union was born eight children who all, together with their mother, survive to mourn his death. They are Myrtle, Mrs. Ed Rockow, Dows; Mable, Mrs. Henry Schutt, Williams; Vernice, Mrs. Wilbur Schutt, Clarion; Irvin of Dows, Fred of Williams, Goldie of Dows; Herbert of Williams and Leo who is at present in the armed forces of the United States. Also 19 grandchildren mourn his passing. Furthermore he is survived by two brothers and two sisters namely, Mrs. Fred Beyer, Mrs. Alvina Graber and Charles and Herman Heiden.
The deceased was a kind and loving husband and father. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, who were very much attached to him. He was known for his untiring industry and integrity and honesty. The deceased reached the age of seventy years, three months and sixteen days. May he rest in peace. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at Vernon Lutheran Church and interment was made at Vernon township cemetery, the Rev. H. Foege officiating. The pallbearers were Fred Hipp, Herman Thelke, (lost text)
