Helen Brown, 76, of Belmond, formerly of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died on Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 18, at the Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, with Reverend Mark Donald officiating. Burial was in the Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls. A memorial service was held on Sunday, June 20, at the Leinbach Center in Belmond.

Helen was born on October 30, 1927, to Emil and Aagot (Nelson) Berg in Fergus Falls. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from the Fergus Falls High School in 1945. She married Marvin Brown on December 25, 1945. They lived in Alexandria, Bethel and Cambridge, Minnesota. After her children were all in school, Helen became a Certified Surgical Technician at Memorial Hospital and continued that career for fifteen years. In 1982 they retired and they enjoyed 10 years in Mesa, Arizona and the North Shore. In 1990 they bought a cabin on Wall Lake. After Marvin died in 1991, Helen continued to spend her winters in Mesa and summers at the lake until 2001. Due to health problems, she moved to Belmond to be near two of her daughters. She enjoyed photography, crafts, oil painting, volunteering, traveling and living at the Belmond Community Apartments. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond and a Round Robin group that stayed in touch by letters since her school days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rod; grandson, Joey Gnerre; and sisters, Eleanor Peltier and Mildred Nokleby. Survivors include her sons, Dan (Cindy) Brown of Phoenix, Arizona and Russell (Belinda) Brown of Spokane, Washington; daughters, Becky (Jim) Janssen and Candy (Max) Christie both of Meservey and Carrie (Steve) Gnerre of Naples, Florida; daughter-in-law, Andrea Lambert of Maryville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Michele Brown, Stephanie Barnard, Cory Kuester, Kyle Christie, Kelly Janssen, Benjamin Brown, Nick Brown, Caleb Brown, Rhianna Brown and Tyler Gnerre; great-grandchildren, Emma and Devon Brown and Jericho Clark; nieces, Sylvia Leabo, Karen Peterson and Sonyia Oehler; and special friend, Maynard Gundberg of Fergus Falls.
