Stephanie Ruth Unger, 41, of Clarion, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20th at the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg. Pastor Bill Keller officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will take place in Casey, Illinois. Services were held in Casey, Illinois on Monday, March 22nd at the Nazarene Church.

Stephanie R. (Yates) Unger was born August 6, 1962, in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of James and Ruthie (Carroll) Yates. She attended Casey-Westfield High School and graduated in 1980. After high school, she attended Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois where she graduated in 1984 with her Bachelor’s degree. On August 6, 1983, Stephanie was united in marriage to Rick Unger. This union was blessed with three daughters. Early in their marriage she was a music teacher in the Knox County School District in Edina, Missouri and also enjoyed coaching basketball, softball and tennis there. Stephanie went on to be a successful music minister with the Harvester Nazarene Church in St. Charles, Missouri. Stephanie and Richard then moved to Clarion, so that he could establish a surgical practice in the area. She continued to be very active with her family, church, home based business and being a homemaker. Stephanie loved to sing and would frequently visit churches in the area to share God’s love through music. She enjoyed numerous hobbies which included scrapbooking, horseback riding, and Karate. She attended the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.

Stephanie is survived by her husband, Rick; three daughters, Amanda, Heidi and Emily; parents, James and Ruthie (Carroll) Yates of Casey, Illinois; two brothers, James Yates of Charleston, Illinois and Greg Yates and wife, Vicki of Bourbannais, Illinois; sister, Sonya Comer and husband, David of Casey, Illinois; father and mother-in-law, Richard Sr. and Pat Unger of Edwardsville, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Memorials may be directed to the children’s education fund, c/o 1st Citizens National Bank, American Breast Cancer Society or the Missionary Alliance Church Building Fund.
