Elizabeth "Liz" Waddington, 93, died on Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at the Hampton Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 22, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.
Elizabeth, the daughter of Gabriel and Anna Marie Sunde Gabrielson, was born on September 17, 1910, on the Gunderson Place near Goodell. She attended school in Goodell. Elizabeth was baptized and confirmed at the St Olaf Lutheran Church. When older, she helped her parents raise her brothers and sisters. Liz married George Waddington on August 17, 1935 in Garner. They made their home in Belmond. She worked at Kessler Pharmacy, as a cook at the Belmond Schools, and as a housewife and mother. George died in 1966. In 1977 Liz moved to the McBurney Apartments in Belmond. She enjoyed cards, word puzzles, bowling, and reading newspapers and magazines. Family was most important to her. Liz was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She belonged to the firemen's auxiliary, Grandmothers Club and bridge club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Don in 1998; sisters, Burley and Ruth; and brothers, Tolford, Elmer and Norman. Liz is survived by daughters, Carol Ann (Larry) Williams of Ackley and Mary Jane (Norman) Charlton of Albion; daughter-in-law, Betty Waddington of Fertile; grandchildren, Penny, Tammy, Bruce, Scott, Christie and Beth; great-grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Jordan, Candice, Austin, Cody and Gabriel; sisters, Ruby Boller and Beaulah (Ed) Reasoner; and brothers, Gerhardt (Marion) Gabrielson and Lester Gabrielson, all of Belmond.
