Faye Arlene Colby, 91, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the Belmond Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 5, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Rev. Lowell H. Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Linwood Cemetery in Boone. The Tenold-Andrews Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Music was provided by Eldoris Bunnell, organist and Susan Toftey, soloist. Ushers were Robert Wenzel and Bob Kalkwarf. Casket bearers were Byron Boyce, Gary Werner, Connor Elmitt, Brad Elmitt, Jay Prescott and Colby Elmitt.

Faye was born on October 15, 1911 at Welcome, Minnesota, the daughter of Herbert and Georgia (Hudson) Ferris. The family moved to Iowa and Faye attended schools in Joice and Lake Mills, and then Iowa State Teacher's College (UNI) and Drake University. Faye and Hubert Ellsworth "Hub" Colby, were married on July 7, 1930 at Princeton, Missouri. She taught rural schools at Goodell, CAL, and parochial school in Geneva, Illinois, from 1965-70 when she retired. Faye was the Librarian at the Belmond Public Library for 10 years. Faye received great joy in caring for her family. She especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in the St. John Lutheran Church. She loved animals. Favorite past-times were sewing, quilting, knitting sweaters and other keepsakes. She liked to play bridge and the organ. Faye and Hub lived in Joice, Boone, Belmond, Chicago and Lake Mills, before retiring to Belmond in 1972. She became a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in October of 2000.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; husband in April 2003; and sister, Velma Paulson. Survivors are her daughter, Harriet "Nubby" (Richard) Woodin of Clarion; son, David (Kay) Colby of Silver Bay, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
