Edwin A. Schad, 89, of Belmond, formerly of Owatonna, Minnesota, died on Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the Belmond Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, May 19, 2003, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father Jim Miller officiating. Interment was held on Tuesday, May 20, in the Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights, Minnesota. The family requests memorials be directed to Catholic Charities.
Edwin Arthur, the son of Frank G. and Anna E. Schilling Schad, was born on November 8, 1913 in Plainview, Minnesota. He graduated from the Washburn High School in 1931 and Minneapolis Business College in 1932. He married Anne Kathryn Moldan, on November 28, 1935 at Incarnation Parish in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis, where Edwin owned and operated a wholesale candy and tobacco business from 1941 until 1956. From 1956 until 1961, he owned and operated Owatonna Bowling Center and built, owned and operated Fair Lanes Bowling in Owatonna. He retired in 1961. Edwin enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards, golfing, and reading. He especially enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and sports on television. He was a member of the St Joseph's Catholic Church in Owatonna. He was active in Knights of Columbus, Elks and the Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Theodore. Edwin is survived by his wife, Anne of Belmond; daughters, Mary Jean Kroiss of Little Canada, Minnesota and Kathryn (Stephen) McClintock of Belmond; grandchildren, Christine Kroiss and Brian Larson; sisters, Louise of Minneapolis, Florence of Wisconsin and Marjorie of Minneapolis; and brother, Ralph of Houston, Texas.
