Leland A. Lieuwen, 79, of Kirksville, Missouri, died on Sunday, February 20, 2005, in Columbia, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 25, at the First Christian Church in Kirksville. Burial was in the Price Cemetery south of Winigan, Missouri.

Leland, the son of Andrew and Elizabeth Lieuwen, was born on March 25, 1925 in Wright County. His parents moved to Belmond while he was an infant and established the Oak Ridge Farm and Dairy. It was here that he was first introduced to the dairy industry which would become his life's work. After graduating from the Belmond High School in 1943, he attended Iowa State College. During WW II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific. He then farmed in the Belmond and Corwith areas. In 1952, he moved to Kirksville to become plant manager of Mitchell Dairy. On November 7, 1955 he married Nina Belle Moffitt of Kirksville.
Leland continued in the dairy industry, managing plants in Hillsboro, Kansas, Denver, Colorado and Los Angeles, California and as a sales representative for Bonnewitz Chemical. In 1971 he and a partner established a firm in Kirksville specializing in the dairy industry. Beginning as a teenager he was an avid enthusiast of flying. He was a member of the Antique Airplane Flyers Association. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a Shriner, and served on the board of Community Opportunities Workshop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian and Jen; and niece, Betty Martin Horwatt. Survivors include his wife; sister, Betty (Charles) Griffen Wilmarth of Benton, Louisiana and Belmond; and brother, Howard (Garnett) Moffitt of Winigan.
