Jean Ann, the daughter of Glenn and Hulda (Nelson) Baker, was born on December 18, 1929. She attended country schools and graduated from the Belmond High School in 1948. Then she attended Waldorf College for one year. On May 29, 1949, Jean married Robert Greenwood. She was employed for a year as a bookkeeper at TomCo Seeds and then joined Bob in Germany while he completed his two-year term with the United States Army. In 1965 they bought a sanitation service in Belmond and operated it as Greenwood Sanitation for 25 years, with Jean as the bookkeeper. In 1990 they sold the business to their son, Jerry. Bob died later in 1990, and Jean continued to help Jerry for a time. Jean's greatest moments were fishing with Bob, cooking holiday meals for her family, and attending any of her children's sports or band activities. Jean enjoyed watching her family participate in many bowling events. One of her greatest joys was being a grandma. Jean made her home at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City since 2001.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sister, Mary Lou Tice; brothers, Curtis, Warren, Claire, Glenn (Bus) and John (Jack). Survivors include her children, Jerry (Sylvia) Greenwood of Belmond, Mark (Annette) Greenwood of Mason City and Peggy (Todd) Smith of Belmond; grandchildren, Halie and Brooke Greenwood of Mason City and Easton Smith of Belmond; as well as sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews from the Baker and Greenwood families.
