Robert D. Toft, 73, Urbandale, formerly Belmond, died March 7, 2006 at Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. A public memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 17 at Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond. A private inurnment will be held for the family March 18 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond.

Rob was born in Belmond, the son of Thomas and Blanch (Ulstad), on September 12, 1932. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1951. Robert served in the United States Army from 1953-55 where he spent time in Germany. Rob worked at the ASC office in Clarion and at the Des Moines Register. He retired from Communication Data Services in Des Moines. He enjoyed playing guitar and had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Betty; and brothers Thomas Jr. and Donald. Rob is survived by sister Doris Nuehring of Belmond; brothers Roger (Kay) Toft of Surprise, AZ, Clifford Toft of Belmond, Jerry (Delores) Toft of Urbandale and Ev (Judy) Toft of West Des Moines; sisters-in-law Mary Toft (the late Thomas, Jr.) of Woodland, CA and Marlys Toft Rich (the late Donald) of Johnston.
