Car Accident Claims Life of Clarion Teen
Fifteen year-old Eric Watts, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2006, as the result of a car accident. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Watts' Pontiac Grand Am went into the ditch, rolled and struck a pole, coming to rest on the driver's side of the car. The accident occurred at 7:03 a.m., one-fourth mile south of 240th Street on Keokuk Avenue as Eric was on his way to school to lift weights. Watts was a student at the Clarion-Goldfield High School. He was a member of FFA, FCA, band, Jazz Band, wrestling and football. He was also active at the First Lutheran Church where he was a member and in 4-H.

Eric Wayne Watts, son of Wayne and Lanette (Jergenson) Watts was born on January 10, 1991 in Clarion. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 12, at the Clarion-Goldfield High School. Pastors Gary Boen and Curt Miner officiated. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Eric enjoyed farming, driving the machinery, 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and working with various motors. He loved the county and state fairs where he showed pigs. When he was hanging with his friends, they had fun listening to music and eating. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the drums and guitar.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Wayne and Lanette; three sisters, Ashley, Olivia and Alayna; grandparents, Leroy and Juanita Watts and Jeanie Olson, all of Clarion; great grandmothers, Elva Weir and Audrey Olson, both of Clarion; aunts and uncles, Delnita Sturtz and husband, Doug of Des Moines, Lynnda Purcell and husband, Tim of Clarion, Renee Bisbey and husband, Brian of Wisconsin, Peggy Watts of Ames, Les Watts of Des Moines, Steve Jergenson and wife, Juanita of Clear Lake, Jeff Jergenson of Clear Lake, Wendy Conley and husband, Leland of Webster City and Linda Schmitt and husband, Steve of Snohomish, Washington; and many cousins and friends. Preceding Eric in death were his grandfathers, Ron Jergenson and Phil Olson; great-grandparents, W. L. and Blanche Watts, Frank Weir, Lola Fortner and Helen Jergenson.
