Darlene (Hubbell) Decker, Born: March 21, 1926 in Dows, IA, Passed Away: March 24, 2006 in Glendale, AZ. Darlene (Hubbell) Decker went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2006 in Glendale, AZ. She was the eldest daughter of Joseph C. & Leona (Pepper) Hubbell. Darlene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Max H. Decker; two daughters: Linda Joy Harris of Munds Park, AZ and Colleen S. Standring of Phoenix, AZ.; sister: Verdell Kelly of Dows, IA.; 7 grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She had a full life filled with joy and laughter and a few tears along the way. Max and Darlene were married on June 26, 1945. With a husband in the U.S. Navy, they moved several times which gave her the opportunity to work as a secretary for Swift & Co. and Winchester Arms. Moving to Arizona after WWII, she had several interesting jobs. She was the first secretary at John F. Long Elementary School and subsequently became the Truant Officer at Sunnyslope High School for 10 years. Later Darlene was secretary of the Alumni Office at Thunderbird Graduate School for International Management. As a member of The Valley Cathedral Church, she was in the choir for several years and served in the Women's Ministries. Darlene and her husband Max were members of Cathedral Christian Center. Darlene was blessed with a heart for people and God gave her the talent to pray for people effectively and to counsel them with love and wisdom. In recent days, we have heard many times by letter and telephone, from friends and family on how beloved Darlene was. Everyone said the same thing; she was a very special lady. We'll miss you 'Special Lady'. Memorial Service will be on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Cathedral Christian Center, 16635 N. 51st Ave., Glendale, AZ. Donations can be made to Trinity Hospice Foundation.
