Death Angel Takes Mrs. Minnie Scott
Scottville Mourns Loss of Great Lover of Flowers and Children.

Funeral to Be Held from M. E. Church Thursday; Burial at Sugar Grove

On the death of Mrs. Minnie Scott, which occurred this morning at 2 o’clock, Scottville loses another of her oldest residents. The Death Angel has visited this community very often this fall and taken many of the older members. Suffered Long Illness.

Mrs. Scott had been ill for some time, but until the past few weeks she was able to be about, and few knew of her serious condition. Friday she became critically ill and since that time had been under the influence of hypodermics. Her mental condition remained clear and she knew everyone around her to the last. Her cheerful spirit kept those about her from realizing the intense pain she suffered, even when it seemed the frail body could no longer stand the strain. Her only child, Mrs. Stanley Ager, was her constant companion and nurse during her illness and to her the death of her mother, who was both parents in one, means loneliness and heartache.

Minnie Polly Littlefield was born April 17, 1860, at Belleville, Jefferson county, New York. In December, 1889, she was united in marriage to Barney P. Scott at Belleville and they went to Goldfield, Iowa, where Mr. Scott owned a large creamery.

Came to Scottville in 1899

Mr. Scott passed away in Dec. 1899, and Mrs. Scott came to Scottville where her sister, Mrs. E. W. Loomis, was then living. This had since been her home. She became an attendant at the Methodist Episcopal church and attended regularly as long as health would permit. When the Naomi circle of the Sunday school was organized she became a member and it was her joy and pleasure to remain one of this group until the last. During the past year many of the members passed on; those who remained gathered often during the summer months to hold their meetings and to recall the earlier days of the group. Mrs. Scott was accomplished in handwork; her exquisite needlework, her woven rugs and fine crochet work were a joy to herself and to others. She loved flowers and children. Two little daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ager, Julia May and Viola Irene preceded their grandmother in death and in her own quiet way she mourned them through her last days, especially the death of Viola Irene, who passed away after a few daysÂ’ illness with diphtheria.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Stanley Ager (Ethel); four grandchildren, Leland, Carlton, Ivan and Mildred Ager; and Mr. Ager, who was as a son to her. Nieces are: Mrs. Ruth Falconer of Scottville; Mrs. Via Bentley of Rose City, Mich.; Mrs. Emma Ballinger [?]; Mrs. Bertha Pollard and Mrs. Blanch Churchill of Mount Rose, Mich. and Mrs. Mary Farr and Mrs. Pearl Blodgett [?] of Adams, N.Y. Mrs. Viola Reader and Mrs. Alice Hessel [?] of Scottville are cousins. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Episcopal church Thursday afternoon at 9 oÂ’clock with interment in Sugar Grove cemetery.
