November 13, 2006Gladys M. Koerselman, 89, died November 10, 2006 at Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Gunderson Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior the service. Interment will be held in North Lawn Cemetery.
Gladys Davis, the daughter of Stephan and Mattie (Johnson) Davis, was born on December 13, 1916 in Humboldt County. Gladys lived and attended country school in Cornith Township, Humboldt until 1931 moving to Fort Dodge to attend high school graduating in 1934. She attended Fort Dodge Jr. College and earned her college credits in Office Machines. In 1934, she was united in marriage to Edgar Prehm. To this union two children were born, Delores in 1938 and Edward in 1948. Edgar preceded her in death in 1949. After her husband's death, her sister Faye and husband William Werling took Edward to help raise him. After several years the Werling's adopted Edward, but Gladys never stopped loving him as she knew they could provide a better life for him. Gladys remarried in 1954 and moved to Bloomington, IL where the marriage ended in divorce. She was employed with State Farm Insurance and later was the manager of the Spiegel Catalog Store in Bloomington. In 1965 she moved back to Iowa and helped with her sister Virginia who was ill. She worked for Acco Seed in Belmond from 1966- 1978 before she retired. On January 6, 1979, she was married to Gerrit Koerselman in Rowan. The couple made their home in Clear Lake and later Clarion. Gladys was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rowan and served on various church committees. She enjoyed spending time quilting and playing cards
Gladys is survived by her husband Gerrit Koerselman, her son Edward (Connie) Werling, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Edgar; her daughter Delores; and her siblings Wayne Davis, Faye Werling, Valley Davis, Virginia Leist, and Richard Davis.
