1 Sepember 2004Mary A. Farrell, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond. Born May 13, 1914, at LaCrosse, Wis., she was the daughter of Timothy Joseph and Anna Marie Johnson Clifford. On May 24, 1952, she married James B. Farrell in Burlington. He died Jan. 30, 1982. Mrs. Farrell worked as an accountant for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown until 1984, when she retired. Her family moved to Burlington in 1922, where she graduated from St. John's High School and attended Burlington College of Commerce. Following her retirement, she moved to Chaparral, N.M., to live near her sister. During her 20 years there, she was involved in local government and was a member of the Community Development Association and the Dona Ana County Home Extension Group, the Honeybees. She volunteered for years at the Chaparral Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Survivors include two sons, Michael Farrell of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jamie Farrell of Eagle Grove; one daughter, Kathy Boyle of Burlington; five grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Ebner of Chaparral; one nephew; and several other relatives. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother and one niece. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove, with a vigil service at 5:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Farrell will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. John Hyland officiating. Memorials have been established for the new Burlington Public Library building fund and Sacred Heart scholarship fund.
