Eldon L. Moats, 77, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 2, 2006. Eldon was born on June 2, 1929, in Clarion, Iowa, the son of Ben and Edna (Caquelin) Moats. He graduated from the Woolstock High School in 1946, attended Jr. College in Webster City, Iowa for a year and then worked for several businesses in Webster City. On August 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Donna Anderson at First Lutheran Church, Clarion. The couple made their home in Ames where Eldon continued his education at ISU. They returned to Webster City where their first three children were born, Kathy, Gary and Nancy. He worked in the engineering department for Beam Manufacturing, then later for a boat manufacturer and score board manufacturing Company in Webster City. In 1957, the family moved to Waverly where Eldon had accepted a position in the engineering department of Schield-Bantam and where their fourth child, Troy, was born. In 1990, Eldon retired. Since the early 1960’s, he had been heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a leader of Troop 69 as well as leadership roles on the district level. Eldon was a longtime, faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, where he had served on the church council, and the offering counting committee. He was a member and Past-President of the Waverly Lion’s Club, and over the years enjoyed trout fishing and building four foot model airplanes. His greatest passion, though, was his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Waverly; his four children, Kathy (Bill) Pepper of Pueblo, Colorado, Gary Moats of San Francisco, California, Nancy (Tony) Kash of Colo, Iowa, Troy (Shelley) Moats of Louisville, Kentucky. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Todd Pepper, Kristine Kash, Emily Kash, Lily Moats; one brother, Leland (Barbara) Moats of Gilbert, Arizona; and one sister, Barbara (Lynn) Howieson of Forest City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 6, 2006, 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Burial will be 2:30 PM on Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and on Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association or to the donor’s choice.
