WEBSTER CITY — Vera E. Hisler, 96, of Webster City, a former resident of Duncombe, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Hamilton Hospital, Webster City. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Duncombe. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Duncombe. Recitation of the rosary will be at 5 p.m. today at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center, Webster City. Visitation will follow the rosary until 8 p.m. and prior to the funeral Mass on Wednesday.

Vera Evelyn Schumacher, daughter of Anthony and Margaret Bromley Schumacher, was born Feb. 18, 1910, on a farm in rural Eagle Grove. On Dec. 29, 1936, she married C.A. Jack Hisler in Clarion, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Blairsburg and Eagle Grove areas and then moved to a farm east of Duncombe, where they farmed for 38 years. They retired in 1982 and moved into Duncombe. Mr. Hisler preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1989. She has resided at the Southfield Wellness Community apartments in Webster City for the past three years.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lucretia and James Barger, Woodward, Iowa, Kathryn and Kent Stravers, Lacona, Iowa; four sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Della Hisler, Sioux City, Iowa, James and Kathy Hisler, Webster City, Iowa, Charles and Joan Hisler, Duncombe, and Robert and Mary Hisler, Woolstock, Iowa.; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Peck and Lillie Gronbach; and several nieces and nephews. Vera was preceded in death by a son in infancy, a granddaughter, four brothers, and two sisters. Vera was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In her early years she enjoyed bowling. Cooking, sewing and crocheting were her favorite hobbies. Her family was her life enjoying her children and all of her grandchildren and the many good times they shared.
