ROWAN - Margaret M. Bailey, 81, of Rowan, passed away Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at her home near Rowan. The funeral for Margaret M. Bailey will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Rowan, with Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiating. Burial will take place at the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour before the service at the church.

Margaret, the daughter of Herman and Lusetta Huntington Olsen, was born Jan. 27, 1919, near Rowan. She grew up south of Rowan, where she attended country school. She then attended Rowan High School, graduating in 1936. On Feb. 11, 1940, Margaret was united in marriage with Merle Raymond Bailey in Clarion. The couple made their home between Alexander and Rowan, where they farmed and raised their family. They were blessed with three sons, Vernon Gene Bailey, Merle Dean Bailey and Gerald Eugene Bailey.Margaret was employed at the Dows and Belmond Care Centers as a nurse's aid, retiring in 1981. Margaret was a member of the United Church of Rowan, United Methodist Women and Card Club. She enjoyed Aretex "textile" painting and making latch hook rugs.

Margaret is survived by three sons, Vernon and his wife, Nadara, of Swaledale, Merle Dean, of Rowan, and Gerald and his wife, Sharon, of Belmond; five grandchildren, Charlotte and Raymond Polsdofer, Rodney Bailey, Janine and Brian Strong, Michael Bailey, and Tammy and Rick Withers; five great-grandchildren, Marshal, Noah, Reese, Brandon and Zachary; one sister, Dorothy Bailey, of Hampton; three brothers-in-law, Elmer Bailey, of Leavenworth, Kan., Kenneth Bailey, of Rowan, Robert Haupt, of Belmond; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Dugger Ewing Funeral Home.
