FINAL RITES HELD FOR MRS. M. A. [Morris Andrew] CARPENTER

Final rites were held for Maude Belle Carpenter, 82, Monday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. from the Presbyterian Church in Dows, with the Rev. D. E. Flint and Rev. R. A. Brough officiating. Music was furnished by Carol DeNio and Flossie Drury, Pallbearers were Calvin Carpenter, Earl Hofsommer, Wallace Carpenter, Roy Hofsommer, Albert Carpenter, Virgil Bridges, Morris Carpenter and LuVerne Baxter. Final resting-place is the Fairview Cemetery. Erickson Funeral Home was in Charge.

Maude Belle Leach was born at Ackley, Iowa, June 28, 1873. At the age of nine months she came to Otisville, later renamed Dows, with her parents residing on a farm two and one half miles north of Dows, known as the Rice farm. Maude Belle Leach grew to womanhood in this community and one of the pioneers who saw the prairie broken and divided into farms. On November 23, 1891 she was united in marriage to Mr. M. A. Carpenter. To this union was born four sons and three daughters; Mrs. Blanche Baxter of Dows, Mrs. Gladys Hofsommer of Dows, Mrs. Fern Bridges of Dows, who preceded her mother in death in April 1955, Mr. Earl Carpenter of St. Clair, Minn., Mr. Lionel Carpenter of Vincent, Mr. Fay Carpenter of Webster City and Mr. Elmer Carpenter of Clarion. Her husband, six children, one brother, Harry Leach, 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren remain to mourn her passing.

Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the R.N.A. lodge and a charter member of the Trident club. A devoted mother and fine neighbor has been called of God to her eternal dwelling place. Her many friends share the sorrow of the bereaved family.
